Lugar Plaza Beekeeping + Honey Tasting Demo

  • Lugar Plaza 200 East Washington Street Indianapolis, IN, 46204 United States (map)

UPDATE: Registration for the honey-tasting portion of this program is now maxed out. However, anyone is welcome to observe and listen without tasting honey. And/or, sign up here to be notified about future beekeeping programs.

Curious about bee culture and honey production? Thinking about getting into beekeeping, or just wondering what we humans can learn from these efficient, cooperative creatures? Want to taste some locally made honey? Brian Mahern of Garfield Honey Co. will give you a basic honey beekeeping overview, including the history of beekeeping, different types of honeybees and their biology, honey bee colony operation and dynamics (more dramatic than a reality show!), beehive equipment selection, location and setup as well as tools and protective gear. Harvesting of honey will also be discussed. Presentation includes visual aids, handouts, and live demonstration of equipment, tools and protective gear.

No bees will be onsite, but anyone who registers in advance gets a bottled sample of honey!

This is a FREE program limited 15 to 20 people, pre-registered; walkups as space allows
